An orientation session is held to help students settle into their stay in Ireland. Information is
presented to students orally but also in written format, covering:
- Host families
- Transport to school
- Discipline
- Emergency situations
- Contact details of leaders
- Programme of activities: excursions, evening events etc

All host families are carefully selected by LOI, the majority of which have extensive experience hosting students. Living with an Irish family, offers the student a very real experience of cultural immersion and many students choose to return to the same host family year after year. Accommodation is on a twin-sharing basis. Single rooms available on request.
- Younger students are accommodated as close to the school as possible
- All students travel to the school in groups
- For the first day at school: students are always accompanied to the bus stop by a member of their host family and are collected again at the end of the day
- Each student is presented with an identity card, detailing key contact information in Ireland
